Queen’s Park Hotel Super Cocktail

A gem from Trinidad

Origin

Print of this little-known gem is first seen in Owen Rutter's book 'If crab no walk: a traveller in the West Indies' printed in 1932. The book tells of Owen's stop at the Queen's Park Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad. There he marvelled at the food, the ballroom and the drinks! Specifically, the hotel's 'super cocktail' with its spicy and fruity taste.

How to make it

1. Add all your ingredients to your shaking tin and add ice
2. Shake for 10-12 seconds
3. Double strain into your glass
4. Garnish with a lime twist or a wheel

On the nose it's limey and fruity with a little rum spice. Pomegranate comes through straight away, make it a good grenadine! On tasting, our team love it! So spicy from the rum, bitters and cola/chocolate notes from the vermouth. It's a complicated, boozy tropical cocktail. Like a more flavourful Daiquiri - if you love those then you must try this! The Grenadine gives it texture and silkiness.

Enjoy!
