Mr. Bodi Hai

Tiki drink meets banana bread

Origin

A Californian cocktail inspired by tropical drinks, all the way back to the 1944 Mai Tai. Nathan Hazard, a bartender and tropical/’tiki’ expert mixed this drink in Los Angeles. It was published in the book ‘Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails’ by Shannon Mustipher. The Mr. Bodi Hai was inspired by the Mr. Bali Hai - a drink we’ll feature soon. The Mr. Bali Hai was itself inspired by multiple variations of the Mai Tai. If you know anything about barorder, you’ll know we love a Mai Tai - so a variation with new tropical flavours is going to be a hit with us.

How to make it

1. Add all the ingredients into the shaking tin
2. Add a small scoop of crushed ice and shake for 10-12 seconds
3. Pour everything into the drinking glass
4. Top up the glass with more crushed ice, careful not to dilute too much
5. To garnish, add pineapple fronds, a wedge of pineapple or if you’re being very fancy an orchid flower.
6. Add a straw too!

On the nose this cocktail is nutty and fruity. There are some flavours you wouldn’t typically mix here - coffee and pineapple, for example. Rum joins all these flavours together. On tasting it’s toasty, nutty with a little banana. Our tasters get a banana bread vibe. You get the coffee and citrus straight away and then the orgeat and rum take over. So many flavours working brilliantly together. Get a good quality orgeat and rum for this one.

Enjoy!
